Come learn about the Illinois Human Rights Commission a quasi-judicial state agency whose mission is to promote freedom from unlawful discrimination as defined by the Illinois Human Rights Act. The Commission, which provides a neutral and impartial forum for resolving discrimination complaints, conducts outreach presentations to inform Illinois residents, including students, about the Illinois Human Rights Act and the Commission’s services.

Vice Chair and Commissioner Barbara Barreno-Paschall, along with Assistant General Counsel, Adrian J. Atwater and Commissioner Janice Glenn, will deliver a brief presentation and answer questions regarding the Commission and their career paths.

Vice Chair Barreno-Paschall was appointed to the Commission by Governor JB Pritzker in 2019 and formerly was an Associate with the law firm Sidley Austin LLP and a Senior Staff Attorney with Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights. She is a graduate of Harvard College, Vanderbilt University Law School, and the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy. Born and raised in Southern California, Vice Chair Barreno-Paschall is the daughter of an Ecuadorian immigrant and is the first in her family to become an attorney.
